Bromine is a sanitizer for pool water. While salt (a saltwater pool via a salt generator) is gaining rapid and exponential growth as a proven sanitizer (and for good reason), bromine is still a very popular pool sanitizer used today. The main reason for the popularity and longevity of bromine is that it has passed the ultimate test - the test of time - as a proven sanitizer for pool water.
As a sanitizer, bromine will destroy and remove bacteria, pathogens, organisms, algae spores, dirt, debris, particles, and other contaminates from pool water as well as help to oxidize organic matter in the pool water so that the end result is clean, clear, and safe water. Sanitizing the pool is a requirement for maintaining optimal water chemistry and the resulting water clarity.
Bromine is a proven sanitizer. If you have a history with bromine, if you are comfortable with bromine, and if you are satisfied with the results of bromine, then use bromine to sanitize your pool.
You can read the Pool Manual for additional information about bromine and sanitizing pool water.
