Cloudy Water

While the goal of water chemistry is to help maintain crystal clear and blue sparkling water, at times your pool water - its water clarity - will be problematic, to include cloudy water.

While there are effective chemicals (a Clarifier) and maintenance procedures that will help prevent cloudy water, there will be times when cloudy water is possible if conditions are favorable.

Too many pool owners add sanitizer and shock to the pool too often and too quickly when cloudy water is initially evident. Prior to attempting to treat cloudy water, you must first troubleshoot the overall condition of the water to determine the degree or overall appearance of the cloudiness. There are a lot of reasons (some of them non-chemical-based) that will result in cloudy water. By troubleshooting the chemicals, equipment, and the overall condition of the water, you will be able to determine the reason(s) for the cloudy water and then use the correct chemical(s) and/or maintenance procedure(s) to restore water clarity.
