Dual Speed Pumps

The pump circulates water to and from the pool.

Even though there are only a few main pool pump manufacturers, each manufacturer has A LOT of brands of pumps that they offer. And each brand has A LOT of different models. And each model has A LOT of different (horsepower) sizes.

Yet all of these pumps are merely listed, marketed and sold as "pool pumps" in general.

It gets confusing. And the choices seem endless.

To add to the confusion and endless choices, dual speed pumps are also available.

All dual speed pumps operate at two speeds:

  1. a pre-set low speed for energy-efficiency.
  2. a pre-set high speed for most pump operations.

Regardless of the speed, dual speed pumps are still rated and driven by horsepower.

The low speed is to be used for general circulation, to keep the water moving and prevent it from becoming stagnant. And at the lower speed, less energy is used, which saves you money each month. The high speed is used for most pump operations, when more water movement is required. Once that requirement is met, though, the pump can again circulate the water with its energy-efficient low speed to save you money.

A dual speed pump is an energy-efficient improvement to a conventional single speed pump. But a variable speed pump is an even better and more energy-efficient pump option.
