Ozonators
There are many pool sanitizer options. While traditional chlorine, salt (which is converted into chlorine), and mineral-chlorination are the most popular pool sanitizers, ozone-chlorination is also a very good sanitizer of pool water, primarily for those of you that want to reduce the amount of chlorine in the pool.
Sanitizing your pool with ozone-chlorination is not required. It is an option...a sanitizer option.
But if you do opt to sanitize your water with ozone-chlorination, then an ozonator (also called an ozone generator) is required equipment.
Initially, ozonators were sold as an actual stand-alone sanitizer that was supposed to be an alternative to chlorine. However, it was quickly concluded that ozonators worked best when chlorine was still present in trace amounts to work with the ozone. Therefore, ozonators quickly went from an alternative to chlorine to a co-sanitizer to be used with chlorine, albeit in trace amounts, to collectively sanitize pool water.
