Mineralizers
There are many pool sanitizer options. While traditional chlorine and salt (which is converted into chlorine), are the most popular pool sanitizers, mineral-chlorination is also a viable, popular and proven sanitizer of pool water, primarily for those of you that want to reduce the amount of chlorine in the pool.
Sanitizing your pool with mineral-chlorination is not required. It is an option...a sanitizer option.
But if you do opt to sanitize your water with mineral-chlorination, then a mineralizer (also called a mineral generator) is required equipment.
Initially, mineralizers were sold as an actual stand-alone sanitizer that was supposed to be a 100% alternative to chlorine. However, it was quickly concluded that mineralizers worked best when chlorine was still present, albeit in trace amounts, to work with the minerals. Therefore, mineralizers quickly went from an alternative to chlorine to a co-sanitizer to be used with chlorine, in trace amounts, to collectively sanitize pool water.
