Leak Analysis
At times, your pool may leak...it can...perhaps it will. DO NOT allow your pool to knowingly leak. This sentence is worth repeating...DO NOT allow your pool to knowingly leak.
If your pool does leak - and if you continue to knowingly allow your pool to leak - then the water loss will be the least of your problems. As the pool owner, you will be able to know if your pool is leaking or not. Most of the time it will be very obvious. But some times it may not be so obvious.
If the pool is believed to be leaking, you need to know how to do some basic leak analysis to determine if the pool is in fact leaking or not.
If a pool leak is suspected, it needs to be confirmed. And as the onsite pool owner/operator, you really should take the lead in leak analysis since you have 24/7 access to the pool. And since you're taking the lead, there is no invoice for these services rendered.
With some simple and free analysis on your part, you can help streamline the process - and you will be better able to communicate information about the leak - which can ultimately save time and money when professional attention - actual leak detection - is required.
But if you don't have time to deal with leak analysis or for whatever reason cannot do it, then pay a pool professional...schedule this professional attention the day the leak is suspected. Have them handle the analysis phase to determine if the pool is leaking or not. If the pool is leaking, then have them handle the actual detection phase to locate the leak source(s). And then have them handle the repair phases to fix and eliminate the pool leak.
A pool leak is a problem. A neglected pool leak will be a major problem.
