Creating A Budget

Pools are an investment

A swimming pool cannot be viewed as a monetary money-making investment. In fact, a swimming pool is almost always a money-spending amenity/luxury for your home. But, a swimming pool is still an investment. It's an investment in the fun that you will have, the good times that you will share, and the memories that you will create with your family and closest friends.

A financial investment requires money for the investment to grow. When you invest financially, some money turns into more money.

A swimming pool also requires money. But with a pool, some money can turn into a lot of money if you don't properly operate, chemically-treat, maintain, clean, care for and service your swimming pool. Protect your investment. Properly fund your swimming pool so that you can always properly operate, chemically-treat, maintain, clean, care for and service your swimming pool...your investment.

This will require a budget.

Families often budget household spending.

They budget monthly living expenses, such as the mortgage, all utilities, cell phones, cable, internet, groceries, gas, entertainment, etc. They budget for other known monthly (or annual) expenses, such as credit card bills, vehicle payments, various insurance policies, etc. They may budget for vacations. They may budget for private school and/or college for the kids. They may budget for a high-dollar purchase. They budget for this or for that. Quite simply, they establish budgets for whatever needs to be budgeted.

Pool-owning families also need to establish a budget solely for the swimming pool.

As a pool owner, there has to be money available for what is known each and every pool season. There also has to be money allocated for what can be pre-planned in a given year (whether that be the end of this current pool season, prior to next pool season, or within the next few years). And there has to be disposable income saved for the unknown (the emergencies) during the current season.
