When pool equipment is being discussed and explained, the pump and filter are always initially referenced because they are required equipment for any pool. Proper pool maintenance and operations starts with a properly-sized pump and filter system.

The pool filter alone contributes the most towards the goal of maintaining water clarity, so its role is overly-important yet too often under-valued.

The filter removes dirt and all other debris from the pool.

There are three types of pool filters. This section deals with sand filters. While the sand filter is the least effective of the three pool filter types, it's the most popular type of filter, primarily because of its perceived ease of maintenance.
