  1. to make the correct chemical adjustments.
  2. to ensure the pump, filter, and the diameter of the plumbing pipes are all properly-sized.

Correct chemical adjustments will ensure proper water chemistry.

A properly-sized pump and filter will ensure proper circulation (pump) and filtration (filter) of all of the water in the pool. And properly-sized pipes will ensure the safe velocity of water movement through these pipes to and from the pool.

There are pre-calculated charts available, and they will be close. But many times with these charts, there are certain variables and measurements that are inadvertently omitted from the calculations used for these charts.
