Service Technicians

When your pool needs a service call, then it is absolutely imperative for you to develop a solid working relationship with a local pool service technician (often called a service tech). While the service technician must be able to handle the service call to ultimately get your pool functional, operational, and back into service, they must also be able to help maintain a solid working relationship with you. To be fair, you too have to help maintain that relationship.

Most service calls will be for the equipment and/or the plumbing.

When you find a good service technician, treat them right.

The full-time service tech is ALWAYS the most unfairly treated and overly-criticized of the pool professionals. They are completely under-valued. And more times than not, it is because of your unrealistic expectations.

The service tech is really the most important pool professional. They fix problems and get your pool back into service so you can can get back swimming. They deal with the day-to-day operations of your pool to ensure it stays in service.

Be fair to them.

You all have emergencies. Not all of you can be the priority right now. And, not all of you can be the first service call of the day. Additionally, when a service tech is working on a pool ahead of yours, they may have to leave that pool, drive across town (either to their shop or to a supplier) to get a part, and then come back to that pool and install that part to ultimately get that pool back into service. That travel time to go get the part and then return to install that part takes time. And before you say "they should have the part on their truck" (or "in their van") or a similar comment, that is so much easier said than done. They likely don't have in excess of a million dollars just to put towards inventory to stock everything they need on just one truck or van. And they certainly don't have room, despite the size and design of that truck or van. They will get to your pool, and they will get your pool back in service. But they cannot always take care of your emergency on your schedule.

When you find a good service technician, treat them right.
