Conventional (single speed horsepower-driven) pumps are still the most common type of pool pump.

Even though there are only a few main pool pump manufacturers, each manufacturer has A LOT of brands of pumps that they offer. And each brand has A LOT of different models. And each model has A LOT of different (horsepower) sizes.

Yet all of these pumps are merely listed, marketed and sold as "pool pumps" in general. It gets confusing. And the choices seem endless.

It is very important that you understand basic and even some semi-advanced information about pool pumps. By understanding pumps, you'll limit the options to the best pump for your pool, given your pool use, specifications, gallons, filter, and plumbing (sizes and schematics).
