The motor is the mechanical piece of equipment that operates the pump.

There are many internal parts to a pool motor, which really are too confusing - and equally unnecessary - to discuss. There is no reason for you to burden yourself with understanding the inner-workings of a motor.

When you have a problem with your pool motor, have a motor shop re-build or repair the motor. Or have a pool professional replace the motor...if the motor needs to be replaced, this is the time to look into upgrades in proper sizing, performance, and energy-efficiency, even if this requires replacing (and therefore upgrading) the entire pump.
